Another winter sunny day, another chance to go out crossing on the mountains around Florence. The daily route is infact a trip into the mountains north of Florence, passing through Fiesole, a very beautiful ancient town on the top of the hill, and then climbing again till the top of Monte Senario (900 m s.l.m.), and the convent that stands up there. This route can be done in two different ways: using main roads, or using dirt roads. I decided to mix it. I climbed the hill of Fiesole and then continued on the main road direction “Olmo”. I turned left for “Passo della Catena”, and here i start climbing on a dirt road. There was too much mud, and i preferred to use main roads after a while to avoid problems with the bike… Then i took the road to Bivigliano, a mountain village, and here i started to climb to Monte Senario. The view on the road was great, but not as the panorama from the Monte Senario convent: you can see all the Mugello valley and all the mountain chains that devides Tuscany from Emilia Romagna north. Really amazing, quite hard with the slopes!

Beautiful roads, and beautiful places…can i suggest you a deviation from Bivigliano to Monte Senario or Polcanto passing by Via Tassaia?
There are many dirt roads across chestnut forest on the hill, or the main road (maybe just a little close) with many curves and gradients.
And you can see the Badia del Buonsollazzo, unfortunately only from outside (but if for some reason you want to enter inside, you find for sure someone that comes with you, me for example…)
